Must-see Attractions and Activities to Do Around Lake Placid

Lake Placid is a place where a person can climb to a mountain’s summit in the morning and go speed skating at an Olympic size ice arena in the afternoon.

The region provides a number of fun activities, ranging from outdoor recreation to downtown entertainment. You could spend an active day swimming or hiking.

A lazy day could also mean meandering along the town’s friendly lanes.

You could also discover your inner Olympian by visiting interesting Olympic landmarks such as the towering ski jumps. There’s an elevator ride to the top that will deliver you to a stunning bird’s eye view of the Adirondacks.

Go Hiking

After getting one of lake placid cabin rentals, during your spare time, you need to go out and explore the plentiful hiking trails! There are trails suited for every hiker’s ability and age.

If you’re not interested in long hikes, you can opt for smaller hikes to Balanced Rocks, Cobble Hill, or Owl’s Head. Moreover, if you want to get an unbelievable panoramic experience, you should visit the Cascade Mountain.

Visit Whiteface Mountain

Take a drive through the Veterans Memorial Highway and head to the summit of Whiteface Mountain, which is a great place to take a rest. This mountain is among the state’s highest peaks.

You can see as far as Canada and Vermont from the summit. You will encounter a castle built from native stone at the top, and while inside the mountain, you will find a gift shop, restaurant, as well as an elevator.

Explore Mirror Lake

This lake is known for its cleanliness and serenity. There are no motorboats allowed, which makes it enjoyable for guests who like to travel peacefully on water in canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats. You can take a walk around the lake or relax and take a dip in the public beach.

There’s also a Mirror Lake Inn Spa and Resort where guests can get a bit of pampering after a day doing outdoor activities.

Watch a Horse Show

While vacationing at one of the Lake Placid cabin rentals, you might get to experience the two prestigious equine events that are hosted in Lake Placid.

These events include the Lake Placid Horse Show and the Love New York Horse Show. They begin at 8 am each day and run in 4 rings up to around 4 pm to 5 pm. The competitions range from some of the planet’s best horses to ponies.

Witness the Ironman Race

Lake Placid’s Ironman features one of the most challenging Ironman courses.

The race contains a run through town and around the lake, a bike ride in the Olympic Speed Skating Oval, and a two-loop swim in Mirror Lake. The rolling mountain views offer a scenic backdrop for this event.

Delight at the Bobsled Experience

You can wind through the Olympic turns as you rumble down tracks during a Lake Placid Bobsled experience that is led by a brakeman and professional driver.

You can experience this during the summer months as well with sleds that have wheels. This experience includes a lapel pin, a shirt, and a photo — together with memories of going extremely fast and having the best time of your life.

When you’re in and around Lake Placid, there’s no way you can remain idle. From the great views to the stunning attractions, there’s always something to do while you’re here.
